A recessed slab hook lock for sliding aluminium windows and doors, cut into the stile so the handle sits flush with the frame face. The body is 182 mm long, 23 mm wide and 17 mm thick, with screw holes set 164 mm apart, which lines up with the standard 90 series window section used on residential sliding sashes. Pressing the sprung lever throws a 9 mm hook out of the end of the body to catch the striker plate supplied with the lock, and the slotted striker takes up the tolerance in the frame so the hook still engages squarely after the building has settled. The recessed format leaves nothing proud of the frame to snag a curtain or a sleeve, and it gives the assembled window the continuous flat sight line that a surface-mounted latch breaks. Suits aluminium and plastic-steel sliding windows and balcony doors. Fabricators running balcony door sets keep these beside the profile lengths, so a sash can be drilled and locked as it moves through the shop. A lock a fitter can match to an existing recess, since the body and screw centres line up with the slab locks already on the frame.
