Key points

  • EPDM foam resists ageing and UV better than plain sponge rubber
  • I-profile 9 mm by 2 mm closes the 1-2 mm gap on aluminium and uPVC windows
  • Yellow release paper peels cleanly for a straight run along the rebate
  • Cut with scissors and use on windows, doors, wardrobes and cabinets
  • The foam compresses into the gap, so a draught is stopped without adjusting the window hinges

Product detail

An I-profile foam seal for closing the narrow gap between a window sash and its frame. The profile is 9 mm wide and 2 mm thick, and it is intended for gaps of 1 to 2 mm, the clearance typically left on aluminium and uPVC casement windows, sliding windows and interior doors. The foam is EPDM rubber, which resists ageing, ozone and ultraviolet light better than plain sponge and keeps its recovery after being compressed for months. A pressure-sensitive adhesive runs along one face under a yellow release paper; peel the paper, press the strip into the rebate and shut the window onto it. The closed-cell foam compresses to take up tolerance variation along the frame, so a single profile handles a window that is not perfectly square. Supplied as a continuous roll that can be cut with scissors and used on windows, doors, wardrobes and cabinet frames. A low-cost answer to a draughty aluminium frame, where the foam fills the gap without removing the sash or disturbing the glazing.
