Product detail

A long-handled octagonal sledge for driving masonry chisels and breaking out brick, block and concrete. The head is an octagonal block of high-carbon steel measuring 15 cm long, 5.5 cm wide and 5.5 cm high, mounted on an 89 cm shaft so the whole tool stands 95 cm from grip to striking face. That length is what makes it useful on demolition: the operator can stand back from the wall and let the head do the work instead of leaning in over the swing. The shaft is sleeved in two black rubber grips, an upper section where the leading hand sits and a lower section at the butt, which is where the vibration of a hard strike on masonry is felt. Head weight is approximately 3.0 kg. Used with a flat chisel or on its own to open up a wall for repair. It is often bought by crews stripping out partition walls, because a long handle lets the head reach over a demolished stub without the operator stepping onto the rubble. A tool for splitting and dressing stone where the operator needs to stand back from the block, and the long shaft keeps the head clear.
