Key points

  • Push-in collet grips 8 mm tube with no tools and no ferrules
  • Blue collar releases the tube again for quick changes
  • Brass body resists corrosion from damp workshop air
  • Hex flats take a spanner when running the fitting into a port or manifold
  • Used to build and repair air lines on cylinders, valves and blow guns
  • Worth keeping a handful on the shelf, since one failed joint takes the whole air line out of service
  • An 8 mm tube on one end and a 1/4 inch port on the other join a tool to a standard line

Product detail

Straight push-in connector for joining 8 mm outside-diameter pneumatic tube to a 1/4 inch threaded port. The tube is pushed into the blue release collar until it bottoms out and is then gripped by an internal collet, so no tools and no ferrules are needed and the joint can be broken again by pressing the collar down and pulling the tube out. The hex body is machined in brass, which resists corrosion in the damp air that workshop compressors deliver, and the flats between the collar and the thread take a spanner when the fitting is being run into a manifold, cylinder port or air tool. Commonly used to build and repair air lines on cylinders, valves, blow guns and small automation rigs. On a machine build, a fitter can run the tube first and push the fittings on afterwards, so runs are cut to length on the frame. Common on small assembly benches and garage lines where tools are moved between drops, since the collar allows a swap without disturbing the rest of the run. For a maintenance round, a straight connector carried in the pocket means a chafed or cut tube can be joined back together on the spot, instead of the machine standing until a length of new tube arrives. Supplied as a single fitting, it also lets a stores department restock only the size that actually gets used, so the shelf stays matched to the machines on site.
