A spring-loaded center punch that marks a drill position with one hand: press the body down against the work and the internal spring releases the hardened point, leaving a dimple where you pressed. There is no hammer to swing and no second pair of hands needed, which makes it useful for marking on a drill press, on a curved surface or inside a bracket where a punch and hammer will not reach. The knurled aluminium body keeps its grip on oily hands, and the hardened point is hard enough to mark mild steel, aluminium, brass and plastics. Because the strike comes from the spring rather than from arm weight, the dimple is consistent from one mark to the next, which helps when a row of holes has to be spotted before drilling. The tool is finished in assorted colours as pictured and is supplied individually. Shops laying out a run of identical brackets mark every position with the same light press, so no worker spends the day swinging a hammer. A pocket tool for a fitter moving between machines, since the mark can be struck in place without carrying a hammer up a ladder.
